Individual funding request update

Well it’s been quite a time since i last updated my blog!!

Here is the current situation with my request to get dental implants and hopefully get teeth back and some semblance of a normal life and sense of well being.  It has now been 7 months of being a non smoker (to comply with the treatment requirements) and my new dental implant specialist has put in the new individual funding request to get the dental implants funded by hertfordshire NHS, this is the fourth time of trying to get some treatment and for me is the last time i will put myself through the experience. There is only a certain amount of times you can be told no and not start to take it personally, I have to admit i don’t have high hopes of the request being successful based on my past experiences of dealing with the NHS and i am fully expecting to live the rest of my life without teeth with the exception of winning the lottery which i don’t actually play. All i see for my future is a continual battle against the reality of the depression of living everyday with no teeth, how long i can continue the battle is anyones guess but i am very fearful about what the resulting damage to my mental health will be from another refusal of treatment from the NHS. My new specialist tried her best to sound positive about the prospects but i was not convinced.

Once again i can only add my frustration over the time delays when dealing with the NHS, it will be interesting to see on what grounds they refuse the latest request as i have covered all the bases and complied with everything asked of me and also supplied letters of support from my Hiv specialist doctor and GP Dr hinton, i also had a interview with the Hertfordshire mental health team and did manage to get a letter that supported the treatment but i found dealing with the herts mental health team a distressingly frustrating experience of endless incompetence i will certainly never attempt to access their services in the future as i found the experience very counter productive to the point dealing with them triggered my depression.  

I should hopefully know the outcome around the End of April 2014 and will try and keep the blog updated to the final outcome in the hope the information will help others in a similar situation to myself.
